You may consider Ibiza to be an island of fun and debauchery suitable only for young people looking for nonstop partying. However, travelling to Ibiza with children is a great choice as the island offers a range of possibilities and fun activities which make for a memorable family holiday
Recommended places to go with children
The first thing you should bear in mind is that some places are more suitable than others when you travel to Ibiza with children. The municipalities of Santa Eulalia and Sant Joan are quieter than areas like San Antonio or Playa den Bossa as these two cater mainly for party goers and ought to be avoided wherever possible. It is best to look for your accommodation in places like Santa Eulalia, Es Canar, San Carlos, San Miguel, Puerto de San Miguel, Portinatx or San Juan.
As for beaches, even though all can be enjoyed, we suggest you choose sandy beaches with calm shallow waters which offer basic amenities, restaurants as well as fun activities. Some of the beaches we recommend for family enjoyment are Talamanca, Cala Martina, Cala Pada, Es Niu Blau, Cala Llonga, Cala Molí, Cala Bassa, Cala Xarraca, Cala de San Vicente, Portinatx and the Port of San Miguel. On most of these beaches you will find activities and sea sports like pedalos, stand up paddle, kayak and the fun banana boat. There are also plenty of companies which offer boat, kayak or SUP excursions.
Children rarely tire of the beach. However, it is still always best to choose accommodation with a pool, whether it be a villa or a hotel. so that they can let off steam. But if you don’t have a pool there are some restaurants which allow you to use theirs when you have lunch there. For example, the hostel and the restaurant Pou des LLeó, Balansat Resort in the Port of San Miguel as well as the Surf lounge Ibiza which boasts the sole artificial wave on the island where older children can experience an introduction to surfing while the smaller children enjoy the pool. Another option is to spend a day at the Ibiza Club de Campo which has great amenities; pool, gardens, a restaurant, a café and paddle and tennis courts. You do not need to be a member to enter and there are various kids’ activities organised daily. Activities to do with children
Other fun activities to do with kids are a visit to the Cave of Can Marcá in the Port of San Miguel, or the Aquarium Cap Blanc in San Antonio where they have grilled sardines in the summer, or you could spend a morning or afternoon in Acrobats, a zipline park in S’Argamassa or maybe enjoy a boat trip where with a bit of luck you might see dolphins, or you could visit one of the island’s stables and go on a horseback ride as a family, or visit the astronomical observatory of Puig des Molins or try out the go kart track. If the weather is bad you can always spend an afternoon in one of the many kids’ playparks around Ibiza. Moreover, as we have explained in other posts, Ibiza is full of gorgeous trails for walking or mountain biking and most are very easy and can be undertaken by children with no problem.
