The belief that eating out in Ibiza is always expensive is one of the myths we hear most often. In reality there is a wide choice of cheap restaurants in Ibiza offering very competitive value for money, especially if you know the spots the locals go to. The trick is to move away from the busiest tourist areas and to know when and where to look.

At Ibiza Rural Villas we put together our recommendations for restaurants near each house every season, so that you can discover the most authentic side of the island and its best places to eat.

The set lunch menu: eating well in Ibiza for €18–25

The menú del día is still the smartest way to eat in Ibiza from Monday to Friday. In village bars and restaurants, a full menu — starter, main course, dessert and a drink — costs between €18 and €25 per person.

The same combination at a beach club or a restaurant in a tourist area can go over €40–50. The difference in price does not always reflect a difference in the quality of the produce; in most cases it reflects nothing but the location.

Municipalities such as Santa Gertrudis, Sant Joan de Labritja and the inner streets of San Antonio (away from the seafront promenade) hold some of the best set lunch menus on the island. Bar Costa in Santa Gertrudis, running since the 1980s, is known for serving an assortment of tapas at no extra charge with every drink.

Local markets are the place to start if you are looking to eat cheaply with seasonal produce. The San Jordi market (Saturdays all year round) includes artisan food stalls with full plates for under €10.

In Ibiza Town, the Sa Penya and La Marina quarters are full of tapas bars where a portion runs between €2 and €5. Moving barely two streets away from the harbour area can mean saving 40 % on the very same dish.

For guests staying at rental villas inland, the roadside restaurants and family dining rooms near the rural estates are a regular choice. These places work with local produce and fixed menus that rarely go above €18 per person.

If you are visiting the island between May and October, the Las Dalias market (Sant Carles) opens every Saturday and adds evening sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays in high season. The grounds include food stalls from several countries with full plates from €8.
