Golf enthusiasts will find Ibiza to be the perfect destination to practice their sport of choice, as the island boasts an outstanding course called Golf Ibiza. The golf course, which is located in the eastern side of the island, dates back to 1972 and the 9-holes Club de Golf de Roca Llisa. 1992 saw the inauguration of the 18-holes Club de Golf de Ibiza, and at a later date they merged to become what is currently Golf Ibiza.
Where is it?
It is just 7 km from Ibiza town, between the municipalities of Jesús and Santa Eulalia, in a beautiful valley close to the coast, which means it is blessed with spectacular views. The club spans across 10 km and boasts two different courses, so you may practise the sport in unique surroundings of singular beauty.
Golf Ibiza is divided into two courses of 9 and 18 holes, most of which feature large greens and are surrounded by trees and lakes. The 9-holes course (which corresponds to the now extinct Club de Roca Llisa) is fairly open and flat, which makes it ideal for approximately 2 hours. It is highly attractive for beginners and experienced players alike, as its bunkers and trees are well positioned in the first 4 holes, whereas the lakes are in the final 5 holes. The 18-holes course is located in the valley’s most uneven terrain and presents a number of natural and artificial obstacles, narrow fairways and sea views. The terrain is filled with peculiarities, and its fairways are adapted to the abrupt terrain. Some of them, such as holes 4, 7, 14, 16 and 18, require a high-risk tactical game, due to which it will take 4 and a half hours to complete the course, a challenge indeed for any golfer.
Learning to play
Golf Ibiza also has an outstanding academy whose PGA-accredited teachers will help you improve your game by means of courses and private lessons adapted to all levels and ages – including children – as well as a fully-equipped practising area featuring a practice course, a putting green and a chipping green in case you are just starting out. There is also a store selling all the sporting equipment you might need and the Hoyo 19 restaurant, where you may enjoy a nice meal in the middle of Ibiza’s countryside.
