Travelling to Ibiza with children may seem like an unconventional idea, particularly given the island’s reputation for its vibrant nightlife and party atmosphere. However, many parents are pleasantly surprised to discover that Ibiza has so much more to offer families. In this article, we will explore various activities and options that make this island an ideal family destination, along with practical tips for enjoying an unforgettable holiday with the little ones.

Ibiza: An Unexpected Family Destination

When asked whether Ibiza is suitable for travelling with children, many clients express doubt due to its nocturnal fame. However, based on our experience at Ibiza Rural Villas, we have found that the island showcases a very family-friendly side that is often overlooked. Ultimately, what surprises families the most is the abundance of relaxed plans and activities specifically designed for children.

Family-Friendly Beaches

One of the greatest advantages of visiting Ibiza with children is the wide variety of beaches that provide a safe and enjoyable environment. Some of the best family beaches include:

  • Cala Llonga Beach: With its calm and shallow waters, this beach is perfect for children to play and swim. It also features shaded areas and nearby restaurants.
  • Talamanca Beach: This beach is ideal for families seeking a livelier atmosphere. There are bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a meal while the kids play in the sand.
  • Cala Bassa: With its soft sand and crystal-clear waters, this beach is a true paradise for younger visitors. Here, you will also find water activities suitable for the whole family.

Activities for the Whole Family

Ibiza is not just about beaches; the island offers a range of activities that ensure fun for everyone. Here are a few ideas:

  • Visits to Local Markets: Ibiza’s markets are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in local culture. For instance, the Las Dalias Market offers a vibrant experience with artisan products and food options that will delight the children.
  • Boat Excursions: Exploring the Ibiza coastline by boat can be a memorable experience. Many companies offer family-friendly excursions that include stops at hidden coves and opportunities for swimming.
  • Adventure Parks: If your children love nature and adventure, consider visiting an adventure park. Some offer activities like zip-lining and climbing, perfect for burning off energy.

Tips for a Family Holiday in Ibiza

Travelling with young children requires a bit of planning. Here are some tips to ensure that your experience of Ibiza with children is as enjoyable as possible:

1. Suitable Accommodation: Choose a private villa that offers comfort and space. At Ibiza Rural Villas, we offer a selection of exclusive villas featuring private pools and outdoor areas perfect for children to play.

A perfect example is the experience of a couple with children who stayed at our villa Can Parras, located just a 3-minute walk from Cala Vadella beach. They told us they practically only used their car to go to the supermarket and the airport. They loved being able to rent a kayak to go on excursions with the kids and explore other beaches by sea. According to them, Cala Vadella is a very family-friendly beach, with several restaurants where they could have lunch and dinner without needing the car. They could walk from the house to the beach and restaurants at any time safely. They felt very happy and thoroughly enjoyed stress-free holidays.

2. Transport: Consider hiring a car to facilitate getting around the island. This will allow you to explore different areas and enjoy the flexibility you need when travelling with children.

3. Activity Planning: While it’s good to have an itinerary, it’s also important to leave room for spontaneity. Sometimes, the best experiences come from unplanned moments.

4. Meals: Look for restaurants that offer children’s menus and healthy options. Many establishments in Ibiza are welcoming and prepared to cater to families.

5. Sun Protection: Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, hats, and light clothing. Sun protection is essential for safely enjoying outdoor activities.

How About a Unique Nature Experience?

If you’re looking for something more exclusive, consider staying at a rural farmhouse. This type of accommodation not only offers tranquillity but also allows children to connect with nature. From farming activities to cycling through the countryside, there are many ways to enjoy Ibiza away from the tourist areas.

At Can Miguel, one of our countryside houses surrounded by pure nature where the neighbours’ goats often graze freely around the property, we were told a very special story. One of the bookings was a family with children, who would run out to the fields to feed the goats and chickens every afternoon during their stay (the parents later asked the neighbours to sell them eggs). Day after day, a beautiful bond formed between the children and the animals. When it was time to leave, the little ones said goodbye in tears, not wanting to leave a place they had come to feel was their own. The most curious thing happened afterwards: according to the owners, ever since then the goats, in a strange and inexplicable way, always wandered towards the corner where the children used to play with them, as if they missed them too.

Additionally, by staying in a countryside villa, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the most authentic side of the island, away from the hustle and bustle. Rural farmhouses usually feature spacious outdoor areas and private pools, perfect for family enjoyment.

A Sustainable and Authentic Destination

Choosing Ibiza as a family destination also means opting for more sustainable tourism. At Ibiza Rural Villas, we are committed to the environment and work to offer you an authentic experience. Our villas are designed so you can enjoy the island responsibly, taking care of its resources and natural beauty.

Being surrounded by nature, you can teach your children the value of sustainability and the importance of caring for our environment. From respecting local flora to engaging in conservation activities, there are many ways to involve children in this cause.
