How to get to Ibiza from mainland Spain and Europe

March 16, 2026

Ibiza is one of the most sought-after destinations in the Mediterranean, but figuring out how to get there can raise questions, especially if it’s your first visit. The good news is that there are several options to reach the island, each with its own advantages depending on your budget, available time and starting point.

Flying to Ibiza: the fastest option

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is located just 7 kilometres from the capital and receives direct flights from major Spanish and European cities throughout the year.

From London, Berlin, Amsterdam or Paris, flight times range from 2 to 3 hours, with numerous airlines offering direct connections including EasyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Eurowings and Transavia. During peak season (June-September), routes multiply with direct flights from dozens of European cities.

From Spanish cities such as Madrid or Barcelona, the flight takes just 50-70 minutes, with multiple daily frequencies.

Prices vary hugely depending on the season. In winter you can find flights from €30-50 per leg, whilst in July and August prices range between €80 and €250. Our tip: book at least 2-3 months in advance for high season.

Once you land, reaching your villa is straightforward. The airport is well connected and, if you’ve booked with us, we can arrange a private transfer directly to your accommodation.

Ferry to Ibiza: the scenic alternative

If you prefer a more relaxed journey or need to bring your vehicle, the ferry is an excellent option. The main maritime connections operate from three mainland ports:

From Barcelona

  • Duration: 8-9 hours by conventional ferry, 3-4 hours by fast ferry
  • Companies: Trasmediterránea, Baleària, GNV
  • Frequency: Several daily departures in summer, at least one daily year-round
  • Approximate price: From €45 per person (without vehicle), from €120 with car
  • From Valencia

  • Duration: 6-7 hours by conventional ferry, 2.5-3 hours by fast ferry
  • Frequency: Daily departures with Trasmediterránea and Baleària
  • Approximate price: From €35 per person, from €100 with car
  • From Dénia

  • Duration: 2-2.5 hours by fast ferry (the shortest connection)
  • Companies: Baleària
  • Frequency: Several daily departures during high season
  • Approximate price: From €30 per person, from €90 with car
  • Ferry advantage: you can bring your car, which is very practical for exploring the island freely. Plus, arriving at Ibiza port rewards you with spectacular views of Dalt Vila, the walled city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Flight or ferry? How to choose

The choice depends on several factors:

  • If you’re coming from far away (northern Europe, UK): flying is the most practical option
  • If you’re on the Mediterranean coast (Barcelona, Valencia, south of France): the ferry can be more economical, especially for groups
  • If you want to bring your car: ferry without question, though you can also hire one on the island
  • If you want the experience: the overnight ferry from Barcelona has a special charm, with cabins where you can sleep and wake up arriving in port
  • Getting from the airport or port to your villa

Once in Ibiza, you have several options to reach your villa:

Ferry arriving at Ibiza port at sunset
  • Private transfer: the most comfortable option, door to door. If you book your villa with us, we can coordinate it
  • Taxi: available 24 hours at the airport and port. The journey to San José costs approximately €25-35
  • Car hire: recommended if you plan to explore the island. Major companies have offices at the airport
  • Bus: regular lines from the airport and port to main points on the island, though with limited frequencies
  • Practical tips for your journey

  • Book your ferry well in advance during high season, especially if bringing a vehicle. Spaces sell out weeks ahead
  • Compare prices between airlines. Sometimes flying with a connection costs less than a direct flight
  • Pack light on flights to take advantage of low-cost fares without checked luggage
  • If arriving on the overnight ferry, take advantage of sleeping in a cabin to arrive well-rested
  • Check your villa’s check-in time to coordinate your arrival
