In reality, there is a wide choice of cheap restaurants in Ibiza with very competitive value for money, especially if you know the spots the locals go to. The trick is to move away from the most touristy areas and know when and where to look.

The set lunch menu: eat well in Ibiza for 18-25 euros

The set lunch menu (menu del dia) is still the smartest option for eating in Ibiza from Monday to Friday. In village bars and restaurants, a full menu (starter, main course, dessert and a drink) costs between 18 and 25 euros per person.

The same combination in a beach club or a restaurant in a tourist area can easily exceed 40-50 euros. The price difference does not always reflect a difference in the quality of the produce; in most cases it simply reflects the location.

Towns such as Santa Gertrudis, Sant Joan de Labritja and the inland streets of Sant Antoni (away from the seafront) have some of the best set lunch menus on the island. Bar Costa in Santa Gertrudis, open since the 1980s, is known for serving a variety of tapas at no extra charge with every drink.

Markets, tapas and cheap restaurants in Ibiza by area

Local markets are the starting point if you want to eat cheaply with seasonal produce. The Sant Jordi market (Saturdays all year round) includes artisan food stalls with full dishes for under 10 euros.

In Ibiza Town, the neighbourhoods of Sa Penya and La Marina have tapas bars where portions cost between 2 and 5 euros. Moving just two streets away from the port area can mean a 40% saving on the same product.

For guests staying at rental villas inland, the roadside restaurants and family-run dining rooms near the country estates are a popular choice. These places work with local produce and fixed menus that rarely exceed 18 euros per person.

If you visit the island between May and October, the Las Dalias market (Sant Carles) opens every Saturday and adds evening sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays in high season. The site includes food stalls from several countries with full dishes from 8 euros.
